Road conditions update following Hurricane Laura: Central LA Region
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises motorists that multiple roads in District 08 (Central LA Region) remain obstructed this evening due to downed trees, debris, and power lines as a result of Hurricane Laura.
All affected roads in Avoyelles Parish have been cleared and reopened but the remaining Parishes (Rapides, Natchitoches, Sabine, Grant, Vernon and Winn) all have numerous state highways with debris accumulated.
DOTD crews have been working tirelessly following the storm to clear primary routes first and ensure these highways are safe for travel. But due to debris and continued hazardous conditions, motorists are urged to use extreme caution when traveling and be aware that you may encounter affected roadways.
Additionally, many traffic signals across the region do not currently have electricity so the signals are not operational. If you encounter a dark or flashing traffic signal, you should treat the intersection as a four-way stop if there is no law enforcement personnel on site directing traffic.
Clean-up operations will continue into Friday, August 28th and possibly longer, so please be on the lookout for DOTD crews and their equipment, and be mindful that you may encounter delays due to these ongoing operations.
DOTD reminds motorists to never drive around a ‘road closed’ barricade at any time for any reason. Doing so is extremely unsafe, as well as illegal.
