NEW ORLEANS. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises drivers that the Interstate 10 roadway lighting improvement projects in New Orleans East are progressing.

The light replacements are being completed in three projects.

The $1.2 million Read Boulevard project, which replaced interstate lights from Bundy Road to Wright Road, is functionally complete.

The lights on the Morrison Road project, which restored lighting from Dwyer Road to Mayo Boulevard, have also been turned on. The $1.4 million project is in the testing phase to ensure there are no concerns.

The third project, which is in the assembly period, will replace the I-10 lighting from Mayo Boulevard to Bundy Road. The $1.2 replacement project is expected to be completed by July 2021.

“I am excited to see most of the lights turned on on Interstate 10 in New Orleans East,” said Secretary Shawn Wilson, Ph.D. “I-10 through the East is one of our busiest highways in Southeast Louisiana and we have worked closely with the legislative delegation from this area to get this done. These types of projects are important to keep our infrastructure safe and up to date, and I believe the drivers will be pleasantly surprised with the improvements. I am grateful for our federal and city partnerships, and the citizen who helped make this happen.”

Once completed, I-10 from Dwyer Road to Wright Road will have upgraded, enhanced LED lighting. All construction is weather dependent and may be rescheduled due to inclement weather.

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds drivers to be aware and cautious when driving through work zones.
