Tidbit Tuesday #13

Hello, and welcome again to our next Tidbit Tuesday.

Our lives are all about predictions, especially now in the midst of COVID-19. We determine trends and predict growth everywhere - our kids, population, investments, everywhere – so getting it right is important. In traffic, the growth rate can mean the difference between a two-car pocket lane and a multimillion-dollar flyover (check your decimal placement)!

Growth rates don’t have to be consistent throughout an entire study area, however, only one method of forecasting can be used in a study. If a TransCad model from the metropolitan planning organization (MPO) exists, then that method is required. If not, an analyst can use historical counts to determine the growth rate. For more information and a step-by-step guide on calculating it, see the Growth Rate Determination document on our Process and Report webpage.
