NEW ORLEANS, La. – Due to severe winter weather, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces that the Lower Algiers-to-Chalmette ferry service has been suspended.

Roadways at the Chalmette ferry landing developed ice due to the temperature and precipitation. The vessel made its final trips from Lower Algiers at 1 p.m. and from Chalmette at 1:15 p.m. An announcement will be made when service resumes.

Ferry service at Canal Street/Algiers Point is still operational – for now, but ice is starting to form on the vessel and passenger walks. DOTD Marine Operations will continue to monitor before making any decision to suspend service.
