Baton Rouge, LA – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced today that motorists can expect two traffic shifts on I-10 between I-49 and the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge in upcoming days.

On Saturday, July 27, I-10 westbound traffic will shift to the right between the basin bridge and LA 347 (Henderson exit). Motorists will travel on two newly constructed lanes while crews prepare for an upcoming eastbound shift, which is anticipated to occur in early August. Once that shift occurs, all I-10 traffic will be on the westbound roadway in a four-lane, two-way configuration while crews reconstruct the eastbound side.

On Wednesday, July 31, I-10 eastbound traffic will shift to the left between I-49 and LA 328 (Breaux Bridge exit). Motorists will travel on two newly constructed lanes while crews construct new center/outside lanes and a shoulder. In early August, westbound traffic will also shift to the left. This configuration is expected to be in place until March 2020.

The traffic shifts are part of two separate widening projects on I-10 that are partially funded by the $60 million FASTLANE grant and an additional $40 million grant, both received in 2016. A third widening project between LA 328 and LA 347 is expected to begin in fall 2019. Once all three projects are complete, nearly 15 miles of I-10 between I-49 and the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge will have new pavement and an additional westbound lane. I-10 eastbound will have an additional lane between I-49 and LA 347.

All dates and activity are weather dependent. DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with extreme caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
