PROJECT UPDATE: I-20 from Texas state line to Monkhouse Drive, Caddo Parish
Thursday, June 20, 2019 at 2:24:50 PM
SHREVEPORT, La. - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises motorists that, while lane closures in the eastbound and westbound directions on I-20 near the Texas state line in Caddo Parish are still in effect, work is progressing toward completion.

The current lane closures are part of a larger $17.2 million project to patch, mill, and overlay the interstate from the Texas state line to Monkhouse Drive in Shreveport, a length of over 13 miles. Full-depth patching prior to the mill and overlay allows particularly damaged areas of roadway base to be repaired, greatly extending the service life of the interstate.

The project began in late April 2018, with work to repair the interstate from the US 80 interchange to Monkhouse Drive. Following those repairs, the contractor shifted operations to the area closer to the state line, a section of interstate that services approximately 51,000 vehicles per day.

The work at the state line includes major reconstruction of the eastbound and westbound lanes. Currently, the contractor is beginning the final asphalt paving operations in the eastbound direction. The base course is being finalized in the westbound direction, and asphalt paving operations will begin soon.

Following the final paving work, the contractor will apply permanent roadway striping, guardrail, and replace the median cable barriers.

Despite contending with one of the rainiest Spring seasons on record for the area, the project remains on schedule. All lanes are anticipated to be open by early August 2019.

DOTD appreciates your continued patience, and reminds motorists that traffic congestion is to be expected in - and approaching - the construction zone, especially during peak times of day. Please be mindful of construction crews and their equipment, avoid distracted driving, and obey posted speed limits.
