PROJECT UPDATE: I-210 Prien Lake Bridge traffic shift coming - Calcasieu Parish

LAKE CHARLES - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises motorists that construction on the westbound bridge is expected to start soon. This will require transitioning traffic to the eastbound bridge. The date for the transition of traffic will be announced once the information becomes available.

Work on the westbound bridge will replace 930 feet of the bridge’s surface, retrofit new guardrails, and continue installing the inspection walkway under the main span. Traffic will continue to be maintained with one lane in each direction during this phase with the exception of the nighttime closures Monday through Thursday.

The contractor has completed the replacement of the eastbound bridge’s approaches and main span. The retrofitting of the new guardrails is nearing completion on the eastbound bridge.

Work began in January 2019, and the entire project is expected to be complete in January 2020, with progress dependent on weather.

Motorists are encouraged to use 511 and MyDOTD to get the latest on the project, its traffic delays, and the upcoming traffic shift. Visit the project page to view lane closure notices and see photos of construction progress.

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
