PROJECT UPDATE: I-20 from the Texas state line to Monkhouse Dr. in Caddo Parish
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises motorists that lane closures in the eastbound and westbound directions on I-20 near the Texas state line in Caddo Parish will continue as part of the ongoing $17.2 million overlay project.
The project will significantly improve 13 miles of the interstate from the Texas state line to Monkhouse Drive in Shreveport.
The current lane closures are to widen the shoulders of a bridge that is within the limits of the project. Major reconstruction of the roadway near the state line is also underway. Intermittent lane closures will remain in place throughout the duration of the project as work progresses.
Work began in late April 2018, and the contractor has completed patching, milling and overlaying portions of I-20 between Monkhouse Drive and Pines Road.
Full-depth patching prior to the mill and overlay allows particularly damaged areas of roadway base to be repaired, greatly extending the service life of the interstate.
The entire project is expected to be complete in Fall 2019, with progress dependent on weather conditions.
DOTD is reminding motorists that traffic congestion is to be expected in - and approaching - the construction zone, especially during peak times of day. An alternate route of US 80 has been established.
