FAA awards $25.6 million in grants for Louisiana airports

BATON ROUGE – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has announced that $25.6 million in grants from the Federal Aviation Administration will be used for improvements at 13 airports statewide. The FAA will award the $25.6 million in fiscal year 2018 Airport Improvement Program grants as part of $3.18 billion in funding provided by Congress for airports across the country. Additionally, the state of Louisiana will invest over $2.8 million in matching funds for these grants.
This second increment of fiscal year 2018 funding provides 13 grants that will fund 15 infrastructure projects, including runways, runway safety areas, taxiways, aprons, airport drainage, and terminals.
“We’re grateful to receive this grant for airport improvements all across our state,” said DOTD Secretary Shawn Wilson. “Air travel is an essential part of the state’s infrastructure, and we owe it to the traveling public to provide safe, high-quality airports. As always, we’re dedicated to continuing the search for alternate means of funding to improve the quality of life of our citizens and visitors.”
“This grant is a welcome addition to other funding mechanisms in place for Louisiana’s transportation system,” said DOTD Multimodal Commissioner Tommy Clark. “As the mission statement of DOTD’s aviation division states, we must continue to improve our aviation infrastructure to insure a safe, modern, and well managed system of airports. The AIP grant makes this mission easier to accomplish.”
Airports receiving grants are Alexandria International Airport, Acadiana Regional Airport, Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport, DeQuincy Industrial Airpark, False River Regional Airport, Jonesville Municipal Airport, Le Gros Memorial Airport, Lafayette Regional Airport, Lake Charles Regional Airport, Louisiana Regional Airport, Monroe Regional Airport, Natchitoches Regional Airport, and South Lafourche Leonard Miller, Jr. Airport.
