Baton Rouge, LA – Today, the Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced that on Sunday, April 29, contractors will shift the lane configuration on Essen Lane between Picardy Avenue and Perkins Road, weather permitting. The two northbound lanes will be shifted back into their preconstruction alignment, and the three southbound lanes will be shifted onto the newly widened portion of the roadway. The center of the road will be closed to facilitate work being done to install new railroad crossing signals. This lane configuration will be in place until the crossing signals and the northbound widening can be completed, which is currently estimated to be in late May.

The Essen Lane widening project will widen both the east and west sides of the roadway in an effort to add a third northbound travel lane. When all construction is complete, which is anticipated to be by spring 2018, Essen Lane will consist of three northbound and three southbound travel lanes, plus a center turn lane between the I-10 interchange and Perkins Road.
