Winter weather causes statewide road closures

BATON ROUGE, La. - Road conditions continue to be dangerous in many areas because ice and snow accumulated on roads and bridges throughout the state during the night. The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development would like to remind people to only drive if absolutely necessary. Traveling is discouraged due to the winter weather conditions.

DOTD is bringing extra staff and equipment in from other portions of the state in an effort to apply more manpower to areas that are currently impacted by the severe winter weather and record cold.

Conditions are changing rapidly and additional roads could be closed. Also, sunshine and warmer temperatures during the day do not necessarily mean roads are clear of ice.

Major interstate closures include:

· I-210 in Lake Charles
· I-10 from I-49 in Lafayette to near Slidell
· I-49 near Opelousas
· I-49 from MLK Blvd. to Mira Myrtis Road
· I-49 from LA 3132 to I-20 in Shreveport
· I-220 in Shreveport and Bossier
· I-12 from Baton Rouge to near Covington
· I-110 in Baton Rouge
· I-55 from LaPlace to the Mississippi state line

Routinely check for the latest information on road closures. You can download the Louisiana 511 app to your smartphone, as well as like DOTD on Facebook and follow us on Twitter.
