Baton Rouge, LA – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD), along with the City of Baton Rouge, are conducting two open house public meetings for the proposed maintenance and rehabilitation project along the Kansas City Southern (KCS) railroad in East Baton Rouge Parish.

In an effort to gather more information regarding the railroad project, DOTD announced last month that the public comment period was extended in order to give the Department an opportunity to reconsider plans that were presented at the public meeting on November 6.

“In public service, it is always important to remember that each and every decision can have an effect on citizens and the communities they live in,” said DOTD Secretary Shawn Wilson. “As promised, we are delivering on our commitment to be collaborative with Mayor Broome and the city of Baton Rouge to better understand the potential impacts that proposed closures and upgrades along the KCS Railroad will have on citizens in the Downtown and Old South Baton Rouge communities that will lead to safer communities.”

On January 11, Secretary Wilson and Baton Rouge Mayor Sharon Weston Broome will tour the corridors to review the proposed upgrades and closures in order to see the impact it will have on the surrounding communities.

“It’s important to keep the lines of communication open with the community. These meetings will assist us in gaining additional input with residents who could potentially be impacted by proposed railroad upgrades and closures,” said Mayor Broome.

Representatives will be available to answer questions and discuss issues related to the project. Oral and written comments on the project can be submitted at the meeting or downloaded from the project’s website and returned via mail or fax (225-242-4500).
