NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces that emergency intermittent closures at the eastbound Interstate 10/610 interchange continue as crews perform emergency debris pickup following an incident that occurred on Tuesday afternoon.

Around 1:00 p.m. yesterday afternoon, a truck apparently spilled thousands of nails on a stretch of roadway, extending from eastbound I-10 near Bonnabel Boulevard to near St. Bernard Avenue on I-610. State police responded and notified DOTD of the incident. DOTD was able to remove much of the debris out of the road ahead of the afternoon rush hour. Crews returned this morning to begin the tedious process of picking up the nails as it was unable to start the task after rush hour and under nighttime conditions.

DOTD anticipates the retrieval effort to be complete and the roadway returned to normal by 3:00 p.m., today.
