MORE INFO: DOTD announces the completion and ribbon cutting of the newly constructed Ouachita River Bridge in Harrisonburg, Catahoula Parish.

The $37 million dollar project encompassed the construction of a new structure and eventual removal of the old Ouachita River Bridge, which serves Harrisonburg and surrounding communities.

The contract was awarded to Gilchrist Construction Company in late 2013, and work began in 2014 to replace the original bridge, which was built in 1932, and serves more than 3,000 vehicles a day.

The new bridge will also be officially designated as the Veterans Memorial Bridge, per resolutions passed during the 2008 Regular Legislative Session, to honor those men and women who have made extraordinary sacrifices to secure peace and freedom for our nation. Signage marking that designation will be revealed during the ceremony.

Please join Secretary Dr. Shawn Wilson and other representatives of DOTD as we celebrate the completion of the new structure and its significance to the community and state.
