LA 21 Widening (Bootlegger to 11th) – State Project No. H.001340

COVINGTON
, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces an update on the project to widen La. 21 from Bootlegger Road to 11th Avenue in St. Tammany Parish, a $16.8 million capacity improvement project.

Current activities:

  • Bridge crews are installing stay-in-place deck forms, pouring diaphragms and erecting bridge deck falsework. All girders and caps have been set and poured on the NB bridge.
  • Drainage crews are casting the tops of catch basins on the east side of La. 21.
  • Paving crew is constructing side street turn outs as well as driveways as various locations. They are also grading and prepping the road base of the median as well as turn lanes throughout project limits.
Previous activities:

  • A crew is installed the underdrain system on the east side of the northbound lanes of La. 21.
  • Bridge crews placed girders, poured diaphragms, and placed SIP deck forms on the northbound bridge over the Tchefuncte River.
  • The paving crew was scheduled to come back in within the next couple of weeks (weather dependent) to continue paving the northbound lanes from just north of the river to 12th Avenue.
  • A crew casted the tops of castings on the catch basins on the east side of La. 21.
The current completion timeframe for the project in its entirety is spring 2017, which is subject to change pending weather, change orders and any additional work requests. DOTD project engineers continue to work with the contractor to maintain steady progress and complete construction as efficiently as possible.
