US 11 Bridge closed due to mechanical failure

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces an emergency closure of the U.S. Highway 11 Bridge across Lake Pontchartrain due to mechanical failure. The bridge is currently stuck in the open position, rendering it impassable to vehicular traffic.
DOTD maintenance crews will survey the damage to make repairs. The current estimated timeframe for reopening the bridge is approximately 6 p.m., today.
