I wanted to give you an update on this projects as some concerns have come up with the status of work.
The project is ongoing, only the first course of asphalt has been installed. After this was done, the contractor “profiled” the roadway (these are the grooves you will notice). The purpose of “profiling” the roadway is to cut down any high points, bumps, or uneven surface areas prior to the installation of the final course of asphalt. This will make for a smoother final riding surface. Unfortunately, after the profiling took place, it was determined that additional work was necessary at several of the intersection medians. This additional work was not included in the original contract and had to be completed prior to the installation of the final course of asphalt. This work has been conducted at night.
This is why there has been a lull in the road surface work lately. However, crews have begun on this additional work and the contractor anticipates completing the project this summer, weather permitting. You should see us back on the surface work in the coming weeks.
There have also been some concerns regarding tape and paint on the roadway. The tape that was used was intended only for a day or two during the asphalt operations. Temporary paint lines have been installed throughout the project. Final striping will be conducted at the end of the project.
Lastly, the traffic signals will not be upgraded on this project. However, during removal of the existing asphalt, the loop detectors had to be removed. These detectors keep the lights synchronized. The removal of the detectors means that all signals have been temporarily reset to preset timers. The lights are not synchronized right now. As soon as the final course of asphalt is installed, these loop detectors will be reinstalled, and the signals will go back to their timing prior to the construction.
Lane Closure
Eastbound and Westbound US 190 (Florida Blvd) in Baton Rouge from Foster Dr. to Airline Hwy., expect lane closures in each direction from Monday night, April 29th through Friday night, May 3rd. These closures will be allowed from 8 p.m. each night to 6 a.m. the following morning. These closures will be allowed while crews work on the medians and related work. At least on lane in each direction will remain open at all times.
This lane closure has no vehicle restrictions and no detour is necessary.
This lane closure is subject to change depending on adverse weather conditions.
DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
