Overview:
The Scott Roundabout is a $2.3 million project that involves constructing a roundabout at the intersection of La. 93 and La. 3168.
Roundabouts, when compared to traditional intersections, help to improve safety because of slower speeds and the elimination of more severe crashes.
According to the Federal Highway Administration, roundabouts save lives by:
o Reducing fatalities by up to 90%
o Reducing injury crashes up to 76%
o Reducing pedestrian crashes up to 30% to 40%
o Creating up to 75% fewer conflict points than a four-way intersection. (Conflict points are any point where the paths of two through or turning vehicles diverge, merge or cross.)
Completed work: The existing roadway has been removed in preparation for construction of the roundabout’s center circle.
Continuing: The contractor is currently constructing the center portion of the roundabout, as well as installing new drainage structures. Construction on this project began in September 2012 and is estimated for completion in fall 2013.
