DOTD announces start of Goose Bayou Bridge Replacement project

, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces the start of a $6.4 million project to replace the existing Goose Bayou Bridge, built in 1968.

The contractor, James Construction Group, LLC, is currently in the assembly period and awaiting the completion of utility relocation. Current activities include videoing existing conditions in the field, fabricating test piles and survey layout. Utilities are estimated to be relocated by the beginning of 2017, after which the contractor is scheduled to start work. The estimated completion timeframe is early 2018.

The structure, slated for replacement for some time, spans 280 feet and is situated approximately five miles south of the Town of Jean Lafitte in Jefferson Parish. A new approach roadway will also be constructed.

All construction activity is weather dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. DOTD appreciates the motoring public’s patience and reminds drivers to please exercise caution when traveling through work zone areas and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking or biking near the active work zone.
