US 90B/Toll Plaza Removal and Reconfiguration – State Project No. H.009920

NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces a new start date for the project to remove the defunct 12-lane toll plaza and reconfigure travel lanes. To allow for proper travel planning by the motoring public, the project, previously scheduled to begin on June 8, will now start on Monday, June 13.

Preliminary work will be to establish the traffic controls, the layout of the future configuration, and removal of the toll booths and canopy across 12 lanes. Lane closures and ramp closures during the shifting of traffic will be made during the hours of 9 p.m. and 5 a.m. Once the traffic controls are in place, the demolition work will be performed during the day as the contractor will be working behind concrete barriers. During the course of the project, traffic patterns are expected to be shifted several times; but, once established will maintain traffic during construction from the elevated expressway and the various ramps. The work is expected to be completed in October 2016, pending any unforeseen circumstances.

The completion of the project in its entirety will accommodate the three lanes from the elevated bridge through the project site. No ramps will be permanently closed, though adjustments will be made as to how and when they merge. Additionally, the Terrytown on-ramp will be permanently reduced from two lanes to one.

All planned construction activities are weather-dependent and may be rescheduled in the event of inclement weather. DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to drive with caution through this and other highway work zones. Also, be alert for the presence of construction workers and equipment.
