LEESVILLE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced today that it will conduct an open-house style public meeting to provide information on the proposed roundabout project on U.S. 171 from Boone Street to La. 1211 (Vernon Street) in Vernon Parish.
The meeting will be held on Monday, April 11, 2016, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at the Leesville Municipal Golf Course located at 331 Country Club Road in Leesville, La.
Representatives from DOTD will be in attendance to provide information and answer questions on the project. A formal presentation regarding the proposed project will be given at 5:15 p.m.
Roundabouts are one-way, circular intersections designed to improve safety and efficiency for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians.
As part of the proposed project, safety measures known as J-turns will also be constructed. The J-turn design will safely and efficiently manage traffic and eliminate left-turn and through movements from side roads and driveways into crossovers. All vehicles will be required to turn right and then U-turn at a median opening down the road.
This project is estimated to go to bid in fiscal year 18-19.
