UPDATE: I-20 closure in Bossier/Webster/Bienville Parishes

BOSSIER CITY, La – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises motorists that I-20 is closed in both directions. All traffic heading eastbound on I-20 in Bossier City will be diverted on to I-220 in Bossier Parish. I-20 eastbound is closed from I-220 to Ada. I-20 westbound is closed from Ada to La. 157. Highway 80 between Ada and Gibsland is also closed. Additionally, many of the local area roads are also impassable. Motorists are advised to use extreme caution.

With the possibility of additional road closures due to high water, motorists are encouraged to check the status of road conditions prior to beginning commutes to impacted areas by utilizing the following resources for the latest information regarding road conditions:

511 Traveler Information: Travelers can also find information regarding road closures by visiting the 511 Traveler Information website at www.511la.org or by dialing 511 from their telephone and saying the route or region about which they are seeking information. Out-of-state travelers can access the system by calling 1-888-ROAD-511 (1-888-762-3511).

During unfavorable weather conditions, motorists should drive using the following safety tips:
• Drive slowly and carefully.
• Avoid driving into standing or running water.
• Avoid driving while distracted.
• Avoid using cruise control when visibility is low or road surfaces are wet.
• Always allow for extra driving time.
• Reduce speeds when visibility is low.
• Make sure there is plenty of room between vehicles.
• Avoid using highway overpasses as tornado shelters.
