On Wednesday, Dec. 16, Governor-Elect John Bel Edwards announced Shawn Wilson as the next Secretary of the Department of Transportation and Development. Wilson has held the Chief of Staff position at DOTD for the past 10 years.

Wilson previously served as Executive Director of the Louisiana Serve Commission and Deputy Legislative Director in the Blanco administration with transportation policy responsibilities.

Wilson recently earned his Ph.D. in Public Policy from Southern University in Baton Rouge. He also has a master’s degree from Southern University in public administration and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette in urban and regional planning.

“It has been a wonderful journey since the day I began working for the Secretary of DOTD more than 10 years ago,” Wilson said. “I want to thank Governor-Elect John Bel Edwards for selecting me to lead this Department. I would also like to thank current Secretary Sherri LeBas and past Secretaries Johnny Bradberry and Bill Ankner for all of their efforts to make Louisiana the best it can be. I learned a lot from each of them, as well as previous Secretaries that are still active in the transportation industry. Sherri and have worked closely together throughout the years, and there will be a smooth transition for the Department as we move forward.”

“I am grateful for the hardworking staff in the various districts and offices across this state at DOTD. I’ve worked closely with many of the employees during my tenure as Chief of Staff and look forward to a productive future,” Wilson added.
