BATON ROUGE – Safety improvements are scheduled to begin this week in the Baton Rouge area and surrounding parishes. Work will consist of installing roadway signage, as well as adding signs, striping and roadway reflectors. This project aims at enhancing safety on over 300 areas along 100 routes throughout Ascension, Assumption, East and West Baton Rouge, East and West Feliciana, Iberville, Pointe Coupee and St. James parishes.

This week, work on the $4.2 million project will begin in Ascension Parish at a site on La. 431 near Lake Martin Road and on La. 429 near La. 22. The project could last up to two years, depending upon weather, and is part of a larger statewide plan to improve safety on Louisiana’s roadways.

The work is part of an effort to increase roadway visibility and draw motorists’ attention to areas such as curves, where drivers may need to pay more attention to the roadway.

“At DOTD, safety is our main concern. This project is an example of making roadways more visible and therefore safer for the traveling public,” said DOTD Secretary Sherri LeBas.

Work will be completed gradually, and will not require many lane closures. If a lane closure is required, DOTD will issue notices in advance.

DOTD appreciates motorists’ patience and reminds individuals to drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
