BATON ROUGE – Today, the Department of Transportation and Development announced two short-term projects aimed at addressing congestion and improving safety near the La. 30/I-10 interchange in Gonzales.

At a recent meeting with local and state officials, as well as stakeholders, DOTD Secretary Sherri LeBas discussed the projects which can go to bid in approximately two years.

One project will install an eastbound left-turn lane from La. 30 to Veterans Boulevard. The other will install an additional eastbound lane from near Ashland Road to I-10.

With these projects identified, DOTD will begin an environmental study. DOTD will design the projects. Utilities relocation and right-of-way acquisition is anticipated to be minimal.

“Travelers on La. 30 should experience a definite improvement in travel time once these projects are complete,” LeBas said. “While our modeling shows a time savings during all peak driving times, the greatest time savings of nearly 40 percent will occur during the afternoon peak hours.”
