BATON ROUGE, La. – Today, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced that an interim traffic camera solution became operational on Friday afternoon on the DOTD's 511 Travel Information Website (www.511la.org). In February, the vendor lost their ability to provide the service.

Since that time, DOTD has provided still photos on about one-third of the nearly 400 cameras available throughout the state. At this time, however, the interim solution will provide images for 90 percent of those cameras. Additionally, the images will no longer update automatically and the user/viewer will have to refresh their computer screen to update each image.

This interim solution will be in place until June when an upgrade is scheduled for installation that will provide live streaming ability on all traffic cameras.

Motorists can access the latest updates on real-time traffic and road conditions using the 511 Traveler Information System by dialing 511 from their telephone and saying the route or region about which they are seeking information. Out-of-state travelers can call 1-888-ROAD-511 (1-888-762-3511). Travelers can also access this information by visiting the 511 Traveler Information Web site at www.511la.org.

Additionally, motorists can utilize the new "Way to Geaux" application to receive real-time, around-the-clock travel alerts. The hands-free, eyes-free smartphone application can be downloaded on any iPhone or Android device by visiting the iTunes App Store, or Google Play.
