PROJECT UPDATE: LA 1 (Youree Drive) asphalt overlay, Shreveport (Caddo Parish)
SHREVEPORT - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises motorists that the ongoing project to repair a section of LA 1 (Youree Drive) in Shreveport has progressed into the next phase of construction.
The contractor has begun the milling process, which involves removing the old layers of asphalt in preparation for laying new asphalt in the coming weeks.
Other repairs have already been completed, such as the full-depth patching which involves removing pre-determined sections of roadway down to the base and replacing with new material. This is an important step in the construction process, as these full-depth repairs strengthen the roadway and extend its service life.
The $3.8 million project stretches from Southfield Road to Stoner Avenue, providing about 3 miles of improvements to the busy commercial and residential corridor.
In addition to the full asphalt overlay on the roadway, portions of sidewalk repairs and other drainage improvements are underway.
Motorists should be aware of the intermittent lane closures along the project route as work continues to move forward. Please drive slowly and carefully through the construction zone.
The entire project is anticipated to wrap up in late June 2025, with progress dependent on weather conditions and other factors that can impact construction timelines.
