New Orleans - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has begun work on the $17.5 million Bayou Bienvenue Bridge Replacement project.

The project will fully replace the LA 47/Paris Rd structure that spans Bayou Bienvenue approximately 5 ½ miles south of the I-10/I-510 interchange. The 4-lane crossing is just over 1 mile south of the “Green Bridge,” the iconic bridge that crosses the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet and is currently undergoing a $47 million rehabilitation.

DOTD will notify the public throughout the project and provide updated lane closure notifications through its MyDOTD service.

To ensure that vehicle access remains available during construction, the contractor will build the bridge in three phases:
· Phase 1: The contractor will work in the median of LA 47 in preparation for shifting traffic to all northbound lanes.

· Phase 2: The contractor will shift all traffic to the northbound lanes, with one travel lane in each direction. The existing southbound bridge will be demolished and replaced with a new structure.

· Phase 3: The contractor will shift all traffic to the southbound lanes of the newly built structure, one travel lane in each direction. The existing northbound bridge will be demolished and replaced with a new structure.

Emergency vehicles will have access to this area.

The project is estimated for completion in Summer/Fall 2026.

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds motorists to drive cautiously through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
