PROJECT UPDATE: LA 1 (Youree Drive) asphalt overlay, Shreveport (Caddo Parish)

SHREVEPORT –The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises the traveling public that the $3.8 million project to repair a three mile section of LA 1 (Youree Drive) in Shreveport, Caddo Parish continues to make progress.

Currently, the contractor is working on what is referred to as full-depth patching, an important part of the road construction process. This phase of work involves removing all layers of roadway down to the base at certain locations, and replacing with new material. This strengthens the roadway and helps prevent future failures under the driving surface.

This full-depth patching between Southfield Road and Kings Highway should be wrapping up this week, with this operation moving to the section between Stoner Avenue and Kings Highway next week (week of March 10).

Once the full-depth repairs are complete, the contractor will then begin the milling process to remove the old layers of asphalt. Those layers will then be replaced with all new asphalt paving on the entire length of the project to provide a much-improved driving surface to service the nearly 20,000 motorists on average who utilize the busy Youree Drive corridor on a daily basis.

The entire project, which stretches from Stoner Avenue to Southfield Road will wrap up in late June 2025, with progress dependent on weather conditions and other factors that can impact construction timelines.

Safety reminder:

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment. Remember to leave plenty of room between you and the vehicle in front of you.

Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking, or biking near an active construction zone.
