PROJECT UPDATE – LA 6 @ LA 504 Roundabout Project, Natchitoches Parish

NATCHITOCHES – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises the traveling public that the project to install a roundabout at the intersection of LA 6 and LA 504 in the City of Natchitoches continues to make progress, including a recently implemented traffic shift.

As part of the process to construct the roundabout, traffic has shifted from the detour roads to the inside lane of the new roundabout. Motorists should be aware of the new configuration and proceed with caution through the construction area.

Additionally, LA 504 at its intersection with LA 6 is currently closed to allow for certain construction activities to proceed.

The alternate route for the LA 504 closure is as follows:
  • Southbound traffic will be detoured east onto LA 3278 and then west onto LA 6
  • Northbound traffic will be detoured east onto LA 6 and then west onto LA 3278
Motorists should also be advised that due to the current configuration, there is a lane width restriction of 12 feet through the project. Vehicles wider than 12 feet will need to utilize an alternate route.

The project is currently on track to wrap up in late 2024, weather permitting.

In general, well-designed and planned roundabouts bring several advantages to an intersection. These include a significant reduction in congestion and wait times, ease of access for nearby homes and businesses, and greatly improved safety through the elimination of traditional conflict points that have the potential to lead to crashes.
