New Orleans—The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) has announced four infrastructure improvement projects in New Orleans to be completed in time for the Super Bowl. These projects, set to begin shortly in downtown New Orleans, are part of a group initiative led by Governor Jeff Landry and funded by the Louisiana Legislature to enhance the city’s infrastructure. The initiative involves collaboration between DOTD, the city of New Orleans, and the Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District.

The projects will focus on repairing and upgrading the area around the Caesars Superdome before the end of the year in anticipation of Super Bowl LIX in February 2025. They are unique because DOTD contractors will be working on city-owned streets.

“Governor Landry has encouraged all local agencies to work together to ensure New Orleans shines on the national stage,” said DOTD Secretary Joe Donahue. “Following that lead, we are working in cooperation with dozens of entities to improve pivotal city areas.”

Projects:

Howard Ave. and Julia St. Concrete Rehab - $1 million
  • Pavement patching, concrete curb replacement, handicapped curb ramps, drainage structure replacement, and pavement markings between Howard and Julia St. below the Pontchartrain Expressway.
Poydras St. and Side Streets Rehab - $1.6 million
  • Rehabilitation and repairs to areas on and around Poydras St., including concrete patching, sidewalk repair, and street markings. The project includes an overlay on Poydras St. between S. Claiborne Ave. and S. Galvez St.
Superdome and Arena Vicinity Rehab - $1.15 million
  • Pavement patching, sidewalk and median repair, drainage work, and striping improvements around the Superdome/arena.
US 90B and I-10 Fence Rehab - $1.3 million
  • Repair and install new fences at various locations under and around the interstate (I-10) and Pontchartrain Expressway (US 90B) in downtown New Orleans.

The Louisiana Legislature recently allocated funding for DOTD projects supporting city-owned road work for the upcoming Super Bowl. These projects complement several downtown projects already in progress by the New Orleans Department of Public Works.

“DOTD agreed with the city enabling us to work on roads in the New Orleans right-of-way,” said DOTD District Engineer Administrator Scott Boyle. “The work being done will be beneficial not just for the Super Bowl, but for anyone who uses the downtown corridor near the Caesars Superdome.”
