DOTD Issues Statement on Status of La. 328 (Anse Broussard Highway) Construction Project in St. Martin Parish

ST. MARTIN PARISH, La. - DOTD has received several inquiries regarding the status of the road closure on a section of La. 328 as part of the on-going construction project in Breaux Bridge, Louisiana. Due to delays, and the inconvenience this closure presents to motorists who utilize this route, DOTD would like to provide an update regarding the current status of the road closure and the overall project.
In June 2024, as part of an on-going construction project, a DOTD subcontractor closed a section of La. 328 to replace a culvert near Bear Creek Circle. At the time, the closure was estimated to last approximately four weeks. Replacing the culvert called for the subcontractor to excavate a large area. Against common construction practices, the subcontractor elected to excavate the area without installing the proper shoring. This resulted in additional portions of the roadway caving in, causing unexpected delays towards completion of the culvert replacement.
Additionally, encounters with sensitive utilities in close proximity of the construction project, along with periods of adverse weather conditions, have hindered progress on the project.
As a result of the impacts mentioned above, DOTD requested an updated schedule of work from the subcontractor. The updated schedule shows estimated completion of the road closure in approximately 4-5 weeks.
Once this box culvert replacement is complete, other minor drainage work and widening for a turn lane at the intersection with LA 347 will be completed before a final lift of asphalt will be installed on the entire project, including the tie-in of driveways and turnouts.
With the delays in the road closure portion of the construction project, we estimate completion of the overall project in early 2025.
DOTD apologizes for the inconvenience this construction may cause, and ask for your patience as we work to provide the traveling public with a safe and quality infrastructure system.
