Keep Louisiana Beautiful and the Office of the Lieutenant Governor Recognize DOTD with 2024 Love the Boot Award

Baton Rouge, LA - Keep Louisiana Beautiful and the Office of the Lieutenant Governor announced the winners of the 2024 Love the Boot awards. These individuals and organizations have demonstrated an unwavering dedication to the well-being of their communities through their outstanding efforts in litter removal, beautification, and education during Love the Boot Week in April.

Among the recipients, the Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) received the Love the Boot award for Outstanding State Agency. Throughout Love the Boot Week, DOTD spearheaded an impressive 152,475-pound litter removal initiative, conducting more than 10 cleanups along Louisiana roadways. This undertaking made DOTD the leading group in terms of litter removal.

The dedication and commitment of DOTD to tackling litter-related issues extend far beyond Love the Boot Week. In 2023, the department allocated $11.7 million toward statewide litter removal efforts. This substantial investment highlights our commitment to maintaining clean and beautiful roadways throughout the year, emphasizing that litter removal is not limited to a single week but is an ongoing responsibility. The financial investment made by DOTD in litter removal each year raises important questions about resource allocation. Each year, money spent on picking up litter could have been used in other critical areas, such as road improvements, maintenance, and overall transportation enhancements.

As we continue to face the environmental and economic consequences of litter, it is crucial that each individual plays a part in preserving the natural beauty of Louisiana.
