BATON ROUGE -- The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces the groundbreaking of three new roundabouts along LA 30 in Ascension Parish. The project involves the construction of three roundabouts strategically located along LA 30 at the intersections of I-10 westbound, I-10 eastbound, and St. Landry Avenue.

“The construction of these roundabouts marks a significant step forward in our ongoing efforts to improve traffic safety and reduce congestion in Ascension Parish,” said DOTD Secretary Joe Donahue. “We are excited to break ground on this project and look forward to the positive impact it will have on the community.”

The traffic signals at the I-10 westbound and eastbound intersections, as well as the signal at LA 30 and Cabela’s Parkway, will be removed. This change will create a safer corridor by enabling traffic to move freely and reducing congestion along LA 30, particularly at the interstate on and off-ramps. The implementation of these roundabouts is expected to significantly reduce conflict points at the intersections, leading to a substantial decrease in crashes.

Barriere Construction has been selected as the contractor for the project, which is estimated to be completed by Spring of 2026.
Senator Ed Price expressed his satisfaction with the upcoming construction, stating, “I am indeed happy that construction of the roundabouts on Highway 30 will begin soon. Once the project is complete, it will provide much-needed relief of all the traffic congestion we have been experiencing on 30. I know the construction may be inconvenient at times, but the improvements will be permanent.”

Rep. Ken Brass acknowledged the significance of the project and pledged to continue working toward securing funding for infrastructure enhancements in the area.

“The Highway 30/I-10 Roundabouts Project is an example of the state’s commitment to expand the Highway 30 corridor and to address the issue of traffic congestion, as the number of residents, businesses, and industries continue to increase in Ascension and Iberville parishes,” said Brass. “The District 58 office will continue to work with Governor Jeff Landry, LA DOTD Secretary Joe Donahue, and the entire DOTD team to advocate for and to secure additional funding to expand our highways/infrastructure throughout the river parishes”.

Ascension Parish President Clint Cointment emphasized the broader benefits of the project, stating, "With these new roundabouts, we're not just improving traffic flow; we're fostering connectivity and enhancing the quality of life for our residents. This project reflects our dedication to creating a safer, more efficient transportation network that will benefit our community for years to come."

"Highway 30 lies at the very heart of the Gonzales community. The critical corridor provides a pathway for the industry workers who drive our state economy, visitors who support our businesses and restaurants, and the families that call Gonzales home," said Gonzales Mayor Barney Arceneaux. "The city of Gonzales has partnered with the Department of Transportation and Development for over a decade to support the funding, planning, and construction of these new roundabouts. We are excited to see this project come to fruition and look forward to alleviated congestion, reduced travel time, and safer roadways for everyone."

DOTD appreciates the patience of motorists and reminds them to drive with caution through the construction site, keeping an eye out for work crews and their equipment.
