The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces that, weather permitting, beginning Tuesday, April 29th, 2025 at 7:00 AM, the northbound and southbound inside lanes will be closed during this phase of the project. This phase of the project will include the construction of the median of US 171 between Stanton Rd. and Boone St., the removal and reconstruction of the turnout for Walmart, the construction of the concrete island at the roundabout, and the construction of concrete truck aprons at Walgreens.
All northbound traffic on US 171 will be directed to the northbound outside travel lane and will continue circulating around the outer lane of the roundabout.
All southbound traffic on US 171 will be directed to the southbound outside travel lane and will continue circulating around the outer lane of the roundabout.
The Walmart driveway will function as an entrance only during this phase of construction. Traffic exiting Walmart will not be permitted to exit via this driveway. Motorists will be required to use an alternate route to leave the premises.
The northbound left turn lane at the Walmart drive will be closed. Northbound traffic intending to access the Walmart driveway will be required to travel through the roundabout, proceed southbound on US 171, and then turn into the Walmart entrance from the southbound direction.
Northbound traffic intending to access Boone Street will do so by entering the roundabout and exiting onto Boone Street.
Southbound traffic needing to access Red Town Road must continue past the intersection and utilize the J-turn located approximately 1,500 feet south of Vernon Street, then travel northbound on US 171 to reach the dedicated turn lane at Red Town Road.
All traffic exiting Red Town Road will be restricted to a right turn onto northbound US 171.
Permit/Detour section
US 171 will remain open to local and through traffic with no restrictions for passenger vehicles and a 10’ wide lane width restriction for all oversize vehicles.
Beginning Tuesday April 29th, 2025 northbound traffic will have access to Red Town Rd. Traffic exiting Red Town Rd. will be restricted to a right turn onto northbound US 171.
The northbound turn lane to the Walmart driveway will be closed.
The Walmart driveway will be utilized as an entrance only driveway. Traffic exiting Walmart will not be permitted to exit via this driveway.
All other traffic control measures in the area will remain unchanged.

Vernon Parish The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces that, weather permitting, beginning Wednesday, March 19th, 2025 at 7:00 AM, the right turn lane to Red Town Road and Red Town Road will be closed during this phase of the project. This phase of the project will include the removal and reconstruction of the northbound right turn lane to Red Town Road, and intersection improvements to Red Town Road.
All other traffic control measures in the area will remain unchanged. This phase of the project is expected to be complete in two (2) weeks.
Permit/Detour section
US 171 will remain open to local and through traffic with no restrictions for passenger vehicles and a 10’ wide lane width restriction for all oversize vehicles.
Beginning Wednesday, March 19th, 2025 the right turn lane to Red Town Road and Red Town Road will be closed during this phase of the project. Motorists who need to access Red Town Road must do so via LA 467 / University Parkway.
All other traffic control measures in the area will remain unchanged.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces that, weather permitting, beginning Tuesday, January 14th, 2025 at 7:00 AM, all US 171 traffic will be switched to the newly constructed roundabout lanes for the next phase of the project. This next phase of the project will include construction of the remaining half of the roundabout (the northbound lanes), a northbound right turn lane to Red Town Rd, and intersection improvements to Red Town Rd.
The contractor will divert US 171 traffic to the new southbound lanes, implement a new configuration for the temporary signal at Boone St, and begin construction of the eastern portion of the new roundabout. This phase of the project is expected to be completed in four (4) months.
Permit/Detour section
The roadway will remain open to local and through traffic with no restrictions for passenger vehicles and a 10’ wide lane width restriction for all oversize vehicles.
Beginning Tuesday, January 14, 2025, US 171 southbound traffic will be reduced to one through lane beginning approximately 700 feet south of Franklin St. Southbound traffic will utilize the existing outside southbound of US 171 to access the newly constructed portion of the roundabout at Boone St. Southbound traffic will return to two lanes near the Walmart driveway.
Beginning Tuesday, January 14, 2025, near Stanton St, US 171 northbound traffic will be reduced to one through lane and diverted across the existing median just north of the Walmart driveway onto the newly constructed southbound lanes. This single lane of northbound traffic will return back to the two lanes of northbound travel approximately 1,000’ north of Boone St. Northbound traffic will still have access to enter the Walmart driveway via the dedicated left turn lane and this intersection will remain signalized for the duration of this phase.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces that, weather permitting, a new phase of work will begin on the US 171 roundabout at Boone St. on Friday, September 20th, 2024 at 7:00 am. Two-way traffic will be permitted along Boone Street, and the one-way detour roads on Boone St. will be closed. The U-turn on south bound US 171, 1,500 feet south of the LA 1211 intersection, will be open. The median left turn lane on north bound US 171 at Stanton Road will be open. All other current lane closures will remain closed during this phase of construction. This phase of construction will allow for the completion of the remaining class II base course, lime treatment, concrete paving, drainage, instillation of driveways, and related work. This phase of the project will continue for approximately three (3) months.
Permit/Detour section
Beginning Friday, September 20th, 2024, Boone St. will be converted into a temporary signalized T-intersection at US 171. Two lane traffic will be permitted on Boone St.
One-way detour roads on Boone St. will be closed.
US 171 southbound traffic will continue to be diverted to the northbound lanes beginning approximately 800 feet south of Franklin St.
Beginning near Stanton St., US 171 northbound traffic will continue to be reduced to one through lane and a dedicated left turn lane for the WalMart drive and surrounding businesses.
The roadway will remain open to local and through traffic with no restrictions for passenger vehicles and a 10’ wide lane width restriction for all oversize vehicles.

Vernon ParishThe Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces that, weather permitting, beginning Monday, June 3, 2024 US 171 will be reduced to one-lane in each direction beginning approximately 800 feet south of Franklin St to near Stanton St. The contractor will divert US 171 traffic to the existing northbound lanes and begin utilization of the temporary detour roads and temporary signalized intersection at Boone St. This phase of the project is expected to be completed in three (3) months.
Permit/Detour section
Beginning Monday, June 3, 2024, US 171 southbound traffic will be diverted to the northbound lanes beginning approximately 800 feet south of Franklin St.
Beginning near Stanton St, US 171 northbound traffic will be reduced to one through lane and a dedicated left turn lane for the WalMart drive and surrounding businesses.
The existing traffic signals at Boone St, WalMart drive, and Redtown Rd will be replaced with temporary traffic signals during this phase of the project.
One-way detour roads will provide access to Boone St from US 171.
The roadway will remain open to local and through traffic with no restrictions for passenger vehicles and a 10’ wide lane width restriction for all oversize vehicles.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announces that, weather permitting, work will begin on the US 171 roundabout at Boone St project on Monday, October 9, 2023. This roundabout and corridor improvement project is located on US 171, beginning approximately 1,500 feet south of the LA 1211 intersection and ending approximately 2,000 feet north of the Boone St intersection. This 1.387-mile long project will receive clearing and grubbing, grading, drainage structures, class II base course, lime treatment, asphalt concrete pavement, portland cement concrete pavement, and related work.
The project was awarded to the lowest bidder, Apeck Construction, LLC, in the amount of $9,770,606.43.
Permit/Detour section
On Monday, October 9, 2023, the contractor will begin Phase I of the project beginning with the construction of a new J-turn approximately 1,500 feet south of the US 171 and LA 1211 intersection. At this time, the existing roadway will be reduced from 12 foot to 11 foot travel lanes in this area, but all lanes of the roadway will remain open to all local and through traffic with no restrictions. As the project progresses, updates will be provided for changes impacting traffic such as lane closures or restrictions.
