UPDATE: Loyola Drive, I-10 interchange improvements project

KENNER, La. — The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces that the opening of the Diamond Diverging Interchange, or DDI, will shift in order to expedite the completion of the two flyover ramps at Loyola Drive and I-10 in Kenner.

The contractor planned to open the DDI on September 12, but determined construction of the flyovers would benefit if the current traffic pattern remained in place. Postponing the opening of the DDI will allow the contractor more working room on the flyovers and it will allow space to stage equipment.

The DDI will now open after the flyover ramps are complete. Once open, the DDI will reduce congestion caused by the large amount of left turns, while moving high volumes of traffic through the intersection. This will ultimately allow for safer left turns and easier interstate access.

The DDI is part of the progress on the $125 million Loyola Drive, I-10 interchange improvements project. Once complete, there will be I-10 auxiliary lanes between Williams and Loyola and two flyover ramps, which will directly connect the airport to I-10 to and from New Orleans.

The flyovers will be open by Summer 2023, weather permitting.
