DOTD to replace pavement markings on I-49 through DeSoto Parish

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises motorists that beginning on Monday, August 23, 2021, there will be intermittent lane closures on I-49 northbound and southbound through DeSoto Parish.

These lane closures are associated with a $600,000 project to replace the pavement markings on a 36 mile stretch of I-49 from the DeSoto Parish line (approximately one mile south of the Southern Loop interchange) to the Natchitoches Parish line.

This project includes the replacement of all the reflectorized pavement markings, pavement striping where appropriate, and other related work.

Motorists should be aware that this work often includes rolling lane closures, which are slowing moving operations. Please pay attention to advanced warning signage and flashing lights, and proceed with caution through the construction zone. While most of this work will be performed at night, there will be some daytime lane closures throughout the project.

Pavement markings are used to convey messages to roadway users. They indicate which part of the road to use, provide information about conditions ahead, and indicate where passing is allowed. Pavement markings provide continuous information to motorists related to roadway alignment, vehicle positioning, and other important driving-related tasks.

The entire project is anticipated to be complete in early Fall 2021, with progress dependent on weather conditions.
