DOTD celebrates completion of LA 3127 widening project

St. James Parish - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development held a virtual ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the completion of a permit project that widened a portion LA 3127 in St. James Parish.
“Projects like these represent the economy and the progress we are making here in Louisiana,” said Secretary Wilson. “In order to keep up with economic expansion, it’s important that our infrastructure systems meet the needs of our motorists and as well as our growing economy and our industrial expansions.”
This project widened 2.5 miles of LA 3127 from two to four lanes, as well as upgraded drainage crossing and improved existing drainage on the West Bank near the site of the future industrial complex being constructed by FG LA, a member of Formosa Plastics Group.
“FG heard community concerns on local transportation needs and made good on its promise to meet those traffic needs now, before The Sunshine Project is constructed,” said Janile Parks, director of community and government relations at FG. “Completion of this work marks a major milestone for community safety, local infrastructure, and for the project itself. We’re grateful to our local construction contractors and their teams who completed these improvements safely and in record time.”
“This project was done through a public private partnership with the Department of Transportation and Formosa Plastics, which is building a site here in St. James Parish on the West Bank,” said Senator Ed Price. “We are extremely happy that we have completed this portion of LA 3127. Our goal is to make sure this highway becomes a highway that is an evacuation route during hurricane season.”
“FG is building a new site they are calling The Sunshine Project and could see the need for road improvements,” said Representative Ken Brass. “This project will have a significant economic impact on the state and local level by creating 1,200 new direct jobs. This is a perfect example of industry and government working together for the greater good of St. James Parish, the River Parishes and the entire State of Louisiana. I commend FG leadership for taking on this project and for DOTD Secretary Shawn Wilson for his willingness to work with others and to make infrastructure improvements across the great State of Louisiana.”
Construction on this project began in June 2020 and was completed in March 2021.
