U.S. 61 closed at East Baton Rouge/Ascension parish line due to downed power lines

Baton Rouge, LA – The Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) announced today that U.S. 61 (Airline Highway) is closed in both directions on the Bayou Manchac Bridge at the East Baton Rouge/Ascension parish line.

The closure is related to strong storms that blew through on Saturday morning. DOTD is working closely with Entergy and will reopen the roadway as soon as it is safe to do so.

Entergy is working 24 hours a day to remove the power lines, but motorists should expect U.S. 61 to remain closed until possibly as late as Monday.

Alternate routes around the closure are available. Motorists on U.S. 61 southbound are being redirected to LA 42 westbound to LA 427 southbound. Traffic on U.S. 61 northbound is being redirected to LA 73.

Motorists can access the latest updates on real-time traffic and road conditions using the 511 Traveler Information System by dialing 511 from their telephone and saying the route or region on which they are seeking information.
