DOTD announces completion of hurricane debris removal in Allen and Cameron Parishes

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces that hurricane debris removal along state right-of-way in Allen and Cameron Parishes is complete.

Initial debris removal began on August 31, 2020 for Allen and Cameron Parishes, after impacts from Hurricane Laura, with debris removal continuing following impacts from Hurricane Delta. In Allen Parish, a total of 199,103 cubic yards of hurricane debris was removed. A total of 353,201 cubic yards of hurricane debris was removed in Cameron Parish.

The final debris removal passes are still ongoing in Beauregard and Calcasieu Parishes. DOTD previously announced the completion of debris removal in Jefferson Davis Parish. To date, contractors have removed a total of 2.1 million cubic yards of debris in Southwest Louisiana, which includes Allen, Beauregard, Calcasieu, Cameron, and Jefferson Davis Parishes. A total of 3.2 million cubic yards of hurricane debris has been removed statewide.

As the final debris passes conclude, DOTD advises residents to stop placing debris in state right-of-way. Any new debris placed on state roadways after the start of the final passes will have to be removed through normal means and will not be removed by state contractors. All other solid waste should be handled through the normal means of disposal.

DOTD would like to remind citizens of the following important tips for assisting the debris removal process.
  • State contractors are only able to remove debris from state right-of-way.
  • Dark colored bagged debris will not be removed.
  • Please do not put debris on power lines, fire hydrants, utility stub outs or anything that would hinder the claw that grabs the debris.
