DOTD to improve safety with a curve realignment project on LA 5 in DeSoto Parish

SHREVEPORT – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces a project to improve safety along a section of LA 5 in DeSoto Parish.

The $1.8 million project will realign LA 5 just east of the village of Gloster. A curve will be lessened and smoothed through construction of a new section of roadway, and then tied in to the existing highway.

The project will also provide additional safety improvements on another area of the highway. A high friction surface treatment will be applied to a second curve on LA 5, which will help motorists maintain better control in both wet and dry conditions.

These surface treatments involve the application of a high quality aggregate that binds to the existing asphalt, and are relatively low-cost, durable safety improvements.

Work is anticipated to begin in late September 2020, with an expected completion of late Summer 2021, weather permitting.

DOTD appreciates the public’s patience as construction gets underway, and urges the public to travel with caution through the work zone, being on the lookout for crews and their equipment.

Motorists can access up-to-date travel information by dialing 511 or by visiting www.511la.org. Out-of-state travelers can call 1-888-ROAD-511 (1-888-762-3511). Additional information can be found at www.dotd.la.gov, and by visiting the DOTD Facebook and Twitter pages.
