Tennessee DOT offers aid with storm recovery efforts

Baton Rouge- Many of our state roadways have been impacted in the aftermath of Hurricane Laura. Crews with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) have been working on storm recovery efforts by removing debris and fallen trees from the roadways, as well as restoring downed signs and traffic signals. In order to rapidly clear all of the roadways, crews from the Tennessee Department of Transportation are traveling to Louisiana to help in the hardest hit areas of the state.
“Our crews have been working tirelessly to clean up debris off our roadways and make sure all routes are safe for the traveling public and communities that were impacted by Hurricane Laura,” said Secretary Shawn D. Wilson, Ph.D. “To expedite these efforts, other states have reached out and offered their assistance. We all know what it is like to suffer from the effects of a natural disaster, and I appreciate the help from our sister agencies to assist our crews in swiftly getting our roads cleared for motorists. This is what it means to lend a helping hand and be a good neighbor.”
Tennessee DOT crews will assist DOTD with tree removal in the Lake Charles and surrounding areas. While the interstates are clear and safe to travel, there are still secondary roads that have weather related closures. Be on the lookout for DOTD crews and their equipment, and be mindful that you may encounter delays due to these ongoing operations.
