DOTD announces recent appointment of new district administrator for Acadiana district

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced today that it recently appointed Michael DeSelle as the new district engineer administrator for the Acadiana district. This district includes Acadia, Evangeline, Iberia, Lafayette, St. Landry, St. Martin, St. Mary, and Vermilion parishes. With headquarters based in Lafayette, it encompasses 2,407 miles of roadway, 979 bridges on the state highway system, 788 bridges on municipal and parish roadways, 34 on-system and 12 off-system movable bridges, two rest areas and oversees more than $375 million in current construction projects.
DeSelle brings over 22 years of experience in road and bridge construction and maintenance to DOTD. Additionally, having spent most of his professional career at DOTD, Michael’s background in the intricacies of state and federal guidelines, as it concerns infrastructure, will serve as an aid in addressing highly complex engineering concerns.
DeSelle, a Louisiana native who holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering and a Master of Science degree in Engineering and Technology Management from LA Tech University, joined DOTD in 1995 as an engineer in training. In 2006, he went on to serve as a project engineer in Vernon, Rapides, Grant, Natchitoches, and Avoyelles parishes for the next six years. Since 2012, he has served as the Area Engineer in Vernon and Sabine Parish for DOTD’s Alexandria district.
DeSelle is married to the former Stacy Elias. They have four children, Sabastian, 21; Anna, 16; Jack, 13; and Mike, 9.
DeSelle replaces former district engineer administrator, Bill Oliver, who recently retired.
