Baton Rouge– Today, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced that it is the recipient of the Enterprise GIS Award. This award was presented to DOTD by ESRI, one of the nation’s top geographic information system (GIS) software developers, during their 40th User Conference.

The Enterprise GIS Award is presented to government, private, and international organizations that have excelled in implementing a department wide GIS software that engages both internal and external stakeholders. DOTD was recognized for creating a system of engagement (SoE) that deployed over 40 apps that makes it easier for DOTD employees to view data from various systems such as the Highway Project Viewer, Traffic Data Review Dashboard, and Structure Identification Form, to name a few.

“I am so very proud of the work our DOTD employees have done to streamline the process of information gathering and data management,” said DOTD Secretary Shawn D. Wilson, Ph.D. “This agency is comprised of more than just our engineering department and a system such as this makes it much easier for our employees to research and gather data from other areas outside of their expertise in a timely and efficient manner. This award is another example of the hard work and dedication DOTD employees put in behind the scenes and it demonstrates our commitment to operational efficiency.”

Through the collaboration of over 12 different departments, DOTD was able to enhance the infrastructure required to facilitate the SoE and publish over 40 apps within the SoE in the first 18 months of the project. In this time, DOTD also trained over 350 employees on tools and apps associated with the SoE. The automated process saved the Department more than 3,000 hours of manual work for sharing information pertaining to construction projects with the public.

DOTD is the first transportation organization worldwide to win the ESRI Enterprise GIS Award.
