LANE CLOSURES: I-20 at LA 617 (Thomas Road) in Ouachita Parish

The Louisiana Department of Transportation & Development advises motorists that beginning Sunday, May 17, 2020, construction crews will begin work on the multi-lane section of the I-20 westbound exit ramp at LA 617 Thomas Rd (Exit 114) in West Monroe, Ouachita Parish.

No more than one lane will be closed at a time. All lanes must be open on the following days at the times listed:
  • Monday: 7:00 am - 7:00 pm
  • Tuesday: 7:00 am - 7:00 pm
  • Wednesday: 7:00 am - 7:00 pm
  • Thursday: 7:00 am - 7:00 pm
  • Friday: 7:00 am - 9:00 pm
  • Saturday: 9:00 am - 9:00 pm
  • Sunday: 9:00 am - 7:00 pm
These lane closures are related to a $695,000 project to add a right turn lane on the off-ramp at Thomas Road, so there will be double right turn lanes at the off-ramp traffic signal.

The westbound off-ramp to Thomas Road carries over 11,000 vehicles per day, on average. And Thomas Road just north of the off-ramp services approximately 28,000 vehicles per day, so this project will increase vehicle capacity on the ramp, enhance safety, and help traffic flow more smoothly through this busy area of West Monroe.

Expected completion date for this project is late 2020, weather permitting.

Motorists should be aware that temporary traffic control measures, including flaggers, may be used to maintain traffic through the work zone.

Restrictions: No restrictions noted. Obey all temporary traffic control measures.

Detour: No detour required, some lanes remain open to traffic at all times.

Safety Reminder:

DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.

Area residents should exercise caution when driving, walking or biking near an active work zone.
