UPDATE: I-10 Widening Project Update

Baton Rouge – The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces that work on the I-10 widening project in East Baton Rouge and Ascension Parishes are progressing.

Currently, crews are working on the new eastbound section of the I-10 bridge over Highland Road and will start forming the new bridge deck in the coming days. Concrete paving for the new travel lane and shoulder, eastbound and westbound, between Highland Road and LA 73 has been completed, though work on the on/ off ramps at Highland Road are still being constructed.

There will be a lane closure on the Highland Road westbound I-10 on-ramp beginning April 6 to April 7 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for paving operations. As an alternate route, motorists are advised to use the I-10 westbound on ramp at the LA 73 interchange. Additionally, Highland Road, both eastbound and westbound, will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning April 7 until April 11. This work is necessary to work on the Highland Road bridge. As an alternate route, motorists are advised to travel westbound on I-10 to the Siegen Lane interchange and I-10 eastbound to the LA 73 interchange.

This $72 million project will widen I-10 from four lanes to six lanes west of Highland Road to the LA 73 interchange, as well as replace the two bridges on the I-10 overpass above Highland Road (LA 42) with one large overpass.

Construction work begin in February 2018 and is anticipated to be complete in Fall 2020, weather dependent.
