DOTD holds ribbon cutting ceremony for St. James Parish traffic signal installation

St. James Parish - Today, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the installation of a traffic signal at the intersection of LA 3213 and LA 3127 in St. James Parish. DOTD Secretary Shawn D. Wilson, Ph.D., was joined by state and local officials to open the signalized intersection to thru traffic.
In late 2018, DOTD made striping modifications to this intersection. The Department has worked diligently with state and elected officials to install this new signal, which will increase safety to motorists by lowering potential collisions at this intersection.
“Safety is our top priority, which is why this Department works closely with state and local officials to meet the needs of the community,” said Secretary Wilson. “The growth and development in this region have met the standards to be converted to a signalized intersection.”
“The installation of traffic signals at the intersection of 3127 and 3213 will no doubt improve traffic safety at a very dangerous intersection,” said Senator Ed Price. “I appreciate the assistance of all those involved to make this happen in order to improve traffic safety and hopefully save lives in this community.”
"I would like to thank Secretary Wilson, the DOTD Staff, Parish President Timmy Roussel, the St. James Parish Council, Entergy, and our local community residents for all coming together to make this project a reality,” said Representative Ken Brass. “The new signal light at the Hwy 3213/3127 intersection is the result of a continued effort to ensure that the state highways in District 58 are safe for our residents to travel."
“I am extremely pleased to have worked with the team to obtain this much needed traffic signal and supplemental lighting at the intersection of Hwy 3127 and 3213,” said St. John Parish President Natalie Robottom. “Our region has great leadership that works together to respond to the needs of our residents. Working together, this was a collaborative effort between DOTD, St. John and St. James Parish Officials, both School Systems, state Delegation and Public Safety Officials at the state and local level. I’m glad to see it come to fruition before leaving office with hopes of avoiding additional accidents at this intersection.”
“On behalf of St. James Parish Government, I would like to send a special thank you State Representative Ken Brass and Senator Ed Price for taking the lead, prioritizing, and seeing this project through to the end. Their due diligence, along with the support of the St. James Parish Council, ensured the approval of the $93,000 to fund the project. I would also like to applaud the work of Entergy and DOTD for getting this necessary project completed, despite the complications along the way. The installation of this new signal light will provide a safer commute for our residents and help with the flow of traffic,” said St. James Parish President Timmy Roussel.
The new signalized traffic light was open to thru traffic on Wednesday, December 4.
