DOTD announces project to improve LA 26 in Beauregard Parish

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces a project to repair and improve LA 26 in Beauregard Parish.

The $8 million project was awarded to Prairie Contractor Inc., and begins at intersection of LA 26 and US 171/US190 and extends west to the Allen Parish line. Nearly 13 miles of LA 26 will be resurfaced by patching, milling, and overlaying. These improvements will provide a safer and more efficient roadway.

The project is anticipated to begin November 18, 2019, weather permitting. Motorists can expected to see a one lane closure throughout the duration of the project. The lane closure location will be condensed to the current work zone and will move as the project progresses. Traffic will be maintained through the work zone by flaggers.

“Maintaining rural roadways is an important and necessary part of what we do at DOTD to support economic prosperity,” Said Secretary Shawn. D. Wilson, Ph.D. “When funding is available, we address these needs across the state. Farm to market infrastructure plays a key role in rural Louisiana as well as the Port and Maritime community. While this project may produce some inconvenience at times, the long-term results will be beneficial for travelers for many years to come.”

The entire project is anticipated to be complete in summer 2020, weather permitting.

To prepare for the project, motorist may use 511 and MyDOTD. Motorists may visit www.511la.org or download the app to get updates on traffic conditions and issues. With 511, motorist can create an account and have alerts sent to their phone via email or text. Motorists may also visit MyDOTD at www.dotd.la.gov to view and receive scheduled lane closures and press release notices via email.
