DOTD to close lane on I-12 in St. Tammany Parish for emergency repair
COVINGTON – The Department of Transportation and Development is announcing that the outside (right) lane of I-12 westbound will be closed for emergency repairs beginning at 8:00 p.m. tonight, Wednesday, October 9, 2019, and lasting until 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 10, 2019.
The closure is located approximately one mile west of US 190.
The closure is necessary to repair a failure in the road base. DOTD crews will be coring through the roadway and pumping concrete to fill the void before the lane can be reopened.
“Safety is our number one concern,” said DOTD Secretary Shawn D. Wilson Ph.D. “We understand there will be backups and an inconvenience, but that is much better than a serious injury or casualty resulting on our roadways. We apologize for the inconvenience. The state has already communicated with parish leadership concerning this unexpected occurrence and are working together to ensure travelers are aware of the issue.”
DOTD has also spoken to the trucking industry about using I-10 as an alternate route to help mitigate the congestion.
DOTD appreciates the motoring public’s patience and reminds drivers to please exercise caution when traveling through work zones, and be on the lookout for crews and their equipment.
