Lockport- The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announces that the Lockport Company Canal Bridge on LA 1 and the bridge south of Lockport on LA 308 over Bayou Lafourche will have new weight restrictions following the recent load postings that restricted trucks from being able to access locations in southern Lafourche Parish.

After further inspection of both bridges, the Department determined that permitted loads could cross the LA 1 bridge but must have a legal escort and may only cross one at a time at a speed limit of 20 m.p.h. Crews are currently removing asphalt on the LA 308 bridge in order to raise the load posting to 35 to 44 tons to allow 18-wheelers that are of legal weight or less to travel across the bridge.

The Department is working on a permanent solution for both structures. Motorists traveling with permitted loads can obtain an escort or oversize/ overweight permit online using the LaGeaux system at http://www.dotd.la.gov/ or by calling 800-654-1433.

DOTD appreciates your patience and cooperation during this time.
